Business 101

Running your own business isn’t anything to be scared about. Yes, there are things you need to learn, obviously but that is what Google is for, but then there are things you should always keep learning, no matter what it is you are doing with your life. Sometimes, especially when it all feels a bit overwhelming, it helps to look at what works for others, and what kind of common qualities can be seen among those with healthy businesses.  I am a firm believer in the “work smarter not harder” motto & Lord knows recreating the wheel is just a waste of time in my opinion so keep your eyes & ears open at all times because the men & women of Lularoe have some pretty rad ideas. It is important as a business owner you showcase your unique personality, there are no cookie cutter rule books on how to be a successful entrepreneur, however, I do think there are definitely some qualities that those who run successful businesses have in common. I have gathered what I believe to be the most common ‘traits of successful entrepreneurs’. Keeping on top of these things may just make the difference between your business struggling or striving. In the very least, I hope they’ll help to keep you inspired to always keep raising your own standards. 10 TIPS ON BEING A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR 1. DOING SOMETHING YOU LOVE There is a reason the word ‘passion’ is bandied about so much. To be successful, and more importantly, feel like you’re successful, you have to be doing something you love, and you have to have the passion to keep pushing forward even when times get tough. Can I get an AMEN? How many times have you opened a shipment you have eagerly been waiting for to find multiple duplicates or not ONE “unicorn” your customers have been begging for…I promise it has happened to me more than once. Guess what I didn’t give up, I didn’t close my business, I moved forward because of the passion I have for the company I work for. I truly love Lularoe & what is has done for myself & my family. 2. HAVING SOLID SYSTEMS IN PLACE The earlier you start implementing systems, from workflows to how you deal with emails or fulfil your orders, the better prepared you will be for when business does start picking up. One of the saddest things to witness is when new businesses with great potential fail, because they don’t have systems in place to handle future growth. Start using Audrey from the jump, implement new online sale systems (Roe with me, Booteek, Shop the Roe), Quickbooks will change your business & help balance the rest of your life.  3. STAYING ON TOP OF YOUR CASH-FLOW This is hands down one of the biggest reasons news businesses fail. If you know you are bad at planning your finances, you need to have someone, such as an accountant, involved to keep you on top of things. Deanne believes in “outsourcing” if you aren’t an expert then don’t take on the task. Business finances aren’t something to dabble in, don’t waste your time trying its just not worth your time. Focus on your passion, Lularoe.  4. RESPECTING THE POWER OF WORD OF MOUTH Want to know what your biggest marketing avenue is? WOM is where it’s at. Don’t treat it lightly. BOOM. 5. GETTING COMFORTABLE WITH SELF PROMOTION This is a hard one, especially for you introverts. It is however something you have to get comfortable with if you want to run a successful small business. Step outside your comfort zone & pass out leggings, business cards, & reach out to local businesses to spread the word about your new venture. Remember people LOVE supporting small businesses so make sure they know you own one. 6. LEVERAGING THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF WHO YOU ARE The thing that makes our business special is us. The more distinctive your voice, the better you’ll reach those who are in the market for what only you can offer. That’s right get JIGGY with it, spark up conversation with anyone & everyone you know about why Lularoe is not just about clothing this company is so much more! LuLaRoe; where through fashion we create freedom, serve others and strengthen families. A place where lives are being blessed and dreams achieved through love, confidence, purpose and growth! 7. ALWAYS BE WILLING TO LEARN NEW THINGS There is always more to learn. Always. Tune into all the trainings on Like A Boss, Tuesday Training calls, attend Super Saturday events, Sunday Suppers, & most important make it a priority to attend the Inspire Tour your business will thank you! 8. SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH PASSIONATE, MOTIVATED PEOPLE It’s crucial to have people around you who light a fire under you, and get you reaching further. It is not a coincidence that Oprah's friends are all successful men & women she purposely surrounds herself with the BEST OF THE BEST. Be Oprah. Surround yourself with winners.  9. BEING CONSISTENT WITH HOW YOU CONDUCT YOUR BUSINESS Leave surprise and unpredictability to the creative product. When it comes to other aspects of your business, consistency is what makes your clients feel taken care of. Your customers are what keep you in business so make sure you treat them like no other.  10. STAY FOCUSED ON WHAT YOUR GOALS ARE It’s so easy to lose sight on what our goals for starting a business actually were. Review where you’re going often, and stay focused on what you want to achieve, and remember that ‘success’ looks different to each and everyone of us. Never compare yourself to others you never know where their journey began <3

It connects us to others like us ‪#‎hustlers‬ / ‪#‎girlboss‬, and allows those who are interested in our business, ‪#‎Lularoe‬, to see all of our lovely Instagram pictures. The key to being successful on Instagram is to find other people who have the same interest as you do, and borrowing some of their hashtags. Your Vibe attracts your Tribe

Having customers if you want to run a successful & profitable business is good. In fact, it's kinda necessary if you want to ... ya know ... STAY in business....

But what if you're attracting the WRONG type of customers? Working with people who don't understand your personality, don't value your talents and drain you emotionally is like running through the rain without an umbrella right after you just blow dried your hair!

Ain't nobody got time for all that ... basically what I'm saying is, attracting the WRONG type of customer can be a real downer even if you LOVE your business! So you might be wondering ... well then how the WORLD can I attract the RIGHT type of shopper?! Better yet, how can I attract my DREAM spender?

Don't worry, I've got you covered. Sit down & get ready for a wild ride, because here's how to attract your dream Shopper. Ready. Set. Go!

1. Figure out who your dream Shopper is.

Alright Sunshine here goes my wise words of wisdom... this might sound a bit obvious but it's also one of the most important steps in attracting your dream customer! You need to know WHO exactly you're trying to attract before you can attract them. Grab a sheet of paper and write down their basic demographics like age range (Lularoe is perfect from Birth-death, right?), gender ( we have the ROEBROS covered in so many ways now. Yay!), where they live, etc. Location definitely applies if you are trying to expand your customer base, looking to grow your T.E.A.M., & heck the most obvious if you want to Pop-up in a new & untouched area. Don't forget to be specific and write down things about their personality, interests, their current job ... get creative! In fact, profiling your dream customer is much like profiling your ideal hostess, so how about getting fancy & create a survey for your followers? I know I am stating the obvious but surveys are also a super handy way to gather information, wink wink. There are several ways to do this. With Wordpress you can use a plugin,  survey site online, or creating a poll on Facebook.

2. Be yourself.

Want to attract people who actually enjoy your personality, share your Lularoe style, and just think that you're (in general) the bomb diggity? Then you need to BE YOURSELF. Completely. Share your real interests and passions, embrace and show your real quirks, tell your own unique story ... do ya feel me? When I first started Lularoe in 2014 I wasn't quite sure WHO I was, to be honest! I had kind of lost who I was, you know having babies & all can really damper your passion for ALL THE THINGS. I was feeling "fluffy" & super depressed but I knew Lularoe was going to change all that. I really had to push myself outside my comfort zone, past all the postpartdumn (mentally), & remember that I could do anything I put my mind to.  However, after a couple months I saw my hard work coming to fruition and I saw the "old" me reappearing. Man, did that feel good.  My business is a direct reflection of who I was, who I am, & who I have become. I haven't strayed from my mission & I truly believe my customers/shoppers appreciate & respect that.

3. Create your own Brand Identity

Oh yes, having a strong brand identity that represents 'Numero Uno' is a MUST! It's what will make you memorable and STAND OUT from the other 25k Lularoe owners across the country! Plus, building a brand around your personality, passions, vision will most definitely  attract the right type of hostesses & customers. Remember your VIBE attracts your TRIBE so find your focus & get ready to make BANK.

Your brand isn't just your logo and visual elements (like colors and fonts.) It's YOU, and how people FEEL about you. It includes the visual things like your logo, colors, fonts and graphic elements, as well as the non-visual things like your voice, the experience you create for people, your goals, etc. I need you to visualize how others see you...are you a leader, a trend setter, someone who takes amazing pictures? As a Lularoe business owner what are you bringing to the table that is different from others? Why should any Lulaaddict shop with you vs. another owner who carries similar items? Are you making each and every shopping experience 100% glorious? If not, now is the time to change that!

4. Use specific words. #hashtags

How do you describe your vibe? Funky, energetic, Creative? Stylish, BOHO? Think about the words that you'd use, you fashion-forward, trendy LulaLovies!!!  Once you come up with your descriptive words for your business & shoppers, sprinkle them all over social media when you post! In your tagline, #fancypants. Basically every time I post on social media I describe how Lularoe has changed my life in some way shape or form (#becauseofLularoe) get deep, your customers and followers will respect you.

5. Be relatable.

Being relatable is all about building a connection and relationship with your tribe. Make a genuine connection is really important in being relatable when it comes to the law of attraction.

Another good way to be relatable? When you are posting on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat visualize speaking to just one person, dig deep & get personal, even if it's going out to 10,000 people, pretend you're talking to ONE person only.

Preferably your bestie <3

6. Be Genuine.

Before you post something on social media, before you write an email asking one of your shoppers to be your next Hostess, think THEIR needs and interests! How would whatever you're about to do or post be helpful or interesting to them? Why would they care about it? Does it give them any value or entertainment? If your answer is "uhhhhhh ..." then maybe you should just NOT.

Mmmmmkay?

It is better to NOT post anything then post something that has zero relevance to anyone reading.

xoxo,

Megs

Because Of Lularoe

Guest Blog Post by Brooke Balderson~

Reflecting today on my amazing long weekend at LuLaRoe Leadership training in California and what this last year with the company has brought me. When I decided to take the leap and join LuLaRoe, I assumed I'd make a little extra money that would ease the burden a bit of being a teacher and a single mom...

Because of LuLaRoe, in less than a month, I will walk out of school and my teaching career to focus on LuLaRoe full time.

Because of LuLaRoe, I will replace and exceed my full time income and take care of my family  working from my home.

Because of LuLaRoe, I will be able to take my son out of daycare.

Because of LuLaRoe, I can drive my son to preschool next fall and help out in his classroom.

Because of LuLaRoe, I wake up excited to do my "job."

Because of LuLaRoe, I get to help women feel empowered.

Because of LuLaRoe, I have met thousands of women and helped them to find their inner and outer beauty.

Because of LuLaRoe, I found myself again in the midst of my "mom" identity.

Because of LuLaRoe, I love the way I look and feel no matter what the weight says on the scale.

Because of LuLaRoe, I love my life.

Because of LuLaRoe, I've met amazing #girlbosses that challenge and push me to be better and comfort me when I trip myself up along the way.

Need a Boost?

There’s nothing like those early days of setting up your own business. The days when you fully embrace ‘Living Your Story’ and jump in with such optimism and more than a little bit of hesitation. I’m sure you remember those days when you happily worked your Lularoe business 24/7, around the clock because you were so pumped about how amazing it’ll be and how it would totally take your business to the next level. When you spent every waking minute thinking about the next step and hated it when you had to do something else, like pay attention to your kids LOL, when all you wanted to do was Live & Love Lularoe.
After all your hard work you find your groove and start feeling like an ‘established’ business owner. AMEN.

And then something happens, the market changes (multi-consultant online parties), new people you don’t recognise start making waves, new technologies (Shop the Roe or What Did I Sell) and new marketing methods (Facebook Pages for future Lularoe Consultants) pop up faster than you can keep up. So you keep learning, you keep trying to keep up. At some point, all that new knowledge makes you feel like you are drowning. There’s so much you didn’t even know you didn’t know before, which means there’s still probably an infinity of stuff you’re yet to learn out there, and it can all feel a bit, well, intimidating. My current situation, truth.
There may come a point, where your whole business, the same one that so inspired you at the beginning, turns into a big scary responsibility you feel you’re not equipped to deal with.
Don’t worry, this feeling happens to all of us especially those of us who prefer to work on our own without a business partner to bounce ideas off of and put worries into perspective. This is the life of being a Small Business Owner you are in the drivers seat so you decide your destiny.
When you feel like your business has taken on a life of its own, and you’d rather hide and ignore it all, it really helps to get back to basics. To start taking small actionable steps that will make you remember that it is you steering your business. You are able and capable of running this thing.

Here are 10 things you can do right now in order to feel more in control again. (research found online)

ORGANIZE ALL THE THINGS

Write down all your ideas and to-do’s and organize them into an annual calendar, you know that amazing Lularoe calendar you bought go put it to work. Getting that stuff out of your head and into an actionable form will instantly make you feel like you are running things again.

Do the same with your inbox. Reply to all the urgent message, develop a system for dealing with emails more efficiently, and signup for Unroll.me in order to clear your inbox of all the distractions. It is important you sit down at your computer & set up auto replies for your business email this will allow you more time to answer your customers without feeling overwhelmed along with setting business hours.

2. RECONNECT WITH YOUR PEEPS

Shoot out a few emails to past customers to see how they are doing, ask a friend on our team out for lunch or coffee so you can regroup. Sometimes it’s reassuring to know that even though you might work in your PJ’s without seeing a soul for most of the time, you are connected to people who either benefit from what you do or understand what you’re going through. On a side note it is IMPORTANT to shower, get dressed, & make your bed when you work from home it gives you a sense of purpose & sets the vibe of the day.

3. FIND LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE

Not all Facebook groups and forums are created equally. While there might be a lot of valuable information in the ones you frequent, make sure the vibe and the active people resonate with you. Sometimes a fast-moving super active group can add to your stress rather than help you with your overwhelm. If you’re an introvert and a regular at an extrovert-heavy group, it’s no wonder you can start feeling like you’re not up to scratch! You have to acknowledge the fact that you move at a different speed, and find the people who match that.

4. PLAN SOMETHING CREATIVE

Whether you put together a styled photoshoot or even your own creative event, being in charge of something that completely fulfils your creative vision can be super invigorating and empowering. Don’t let someone else dictate your life the feeling of being overwhelmed usually stems from feeling like you have to adhere to someone else’s standards or idea of creativity, so when you get to decide on all the elements (and people involved) on your own, you will feel completely on top of your creative game again.

5. HAVE A SESSION WITH A MENTOR

The most important role that a mentor has, is to be a safe place where you are able to say ‘I don’t know this’, and trust that you’ll be 100% supported and not judged. Your mentor will be able to offer you a different viewpoint on the problems your facing, support you with the practicalities of implementing things, and help you work on a strategy that allows you to spring forward with confidence.

6. REFRESH YOUR BUSINESS PLAN

You might have even skipped putting together a business plan altogether in the heady days of setting up your business, which would be an obvious cause for your overwhelm right now. But even if you do have one knocking about in a drawer somewhere, refreshing your business plan regularly will get you back on course and help you focus. A business plan you create solely for your own use can help spark new ideas, energise you, and provide you with actionable steps to move forward. Gold dust.

7. HAVE FUN GENERATING NEW IDEAS

There are so many amazingly fun idea-generation techniques around that can help you unlock all sorts of magical things that your brain has stored up. Utilise them! There’s no better feeling than coming up with an idea that sparks pure joy inside of you, or even solves multiple problems you’ve been struggling with at once.

8. SET ASIDE TIME FOR YOURSELF

It’s so important to allow yourself enough time to recharge. Especially if you’re on the introverted side, you owe yourself that quiet time or else you know you’ll be useless. Don’t think of it as laziness, but rather a necessary practice that allows you to be at your best. Take a nap once in a while to help get those creative juices flowing.

9. SURVEY YOUR CLIENTS

One of the biggest causes of overwhelm is not know what your clients think. When you don’t know what they think, you automatically start fearing for the worst, which adds to your feelings of not being in control. So, ask them! On your VIP page request feedback, do regular surveys, and always add a call to action at the bottom of your Facebook posts . There’s nothing better than to hear back from the people who value what you do, it really makes it all worthwhile.

10. LIST YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS

It’s fine, you don’t have to make a blog post about them, or even share them with anyone if that makes you feel uncomfortable. Just make a list for yourself of all the things you’ve overcome and achieved since you set up your business. I guarantee you’ll be surprised by how much you’ve learned and how many amazing things you’ve put out into the world. You did it. Own it. It’s your business and you’re in charge.

Take a Deep Breath it is all good!!

My So-Called Crazy LulaLife!

Hey LuLaLovers! My name is Amanda and I’m your guest blogger today!

I want to chat with you today about goals. I don’t know about you, but springtime, warm weather and the feeling of new beginnings makes me want to make goals and to-do lists and get things done!

Since starting my own small business last fall I have realized the extra time I would normally spend on taking time for “me” has been spent (as my daughters say), “LuLaRoeing”.  You know how people who have kids say, “I don’t even remember what I did with my free time before I had kids!”? Well I feel like I don’t remember what I did with my free time before LuLaRoe!  Lately, whether it’s preparing a week’s worth of Facebook posts in advance, planning Pop-Ups, photographing new inventory or prepping and mailing packages, I have chosen to spend my free time working to grow my business and make it better and I thoroughly enjoy it! The thing is, I miss doing the things I did before LuLaRoe. I miss being obsessed with getting my daily workout in, going for a run, refinishing that piece of furniture I bought, organizing and decorating our home, gardening, playing baby dolls and tea party and pretend. I probably need to take a course in time-management! I’m just used to living my life 100mph at all times. As a busy working mom of two I always tend to put everyone else’s needs before my own-raise your hand if you can relate with that! My Mom always tells me I take on too much at once (then she asks me if me if I’m remembering to take my vitamins-which I somehow can’t even find the time to do lately!). But you know what? I want it all! I want to be able to juggle multiple priorities, shuttle my babies from Brownies to gymnastics, to a play date then come home, help with homework, make dinner, spend time with the Hubs, and run a successful business.  I’ve made every excuse in the book as to why I put myself on the back burner but this month I’m getting’ back to “me”. Why? Because I’ve realized that when I take time for myself and work on “me”, I’m happier, I’m nicer, I’m more patient, I show more grace, I’m a better Mom, wife, daughter and most of all… I just plain feel better! Besides, summer is coming (and the LuLaRoe Convention!) and I want to start it off feeling my best…rested, fit, healthy and with some more pep in my step! Who’s with me? Let’s do this together!

I’ve created some goals for us-not just fitness related but things that are just “good for us”.  Here are just a few ideas:

-Create a daily routine to take your daily vitamin (this one is for you Mom!)

-Substitute the soda you may drink for water

-Limit the amount of caffeine you drink to maybe just one cup of coffee in the morning

-Sit down for dinner with your family and be completely unplugged-no checking the phone and turn off the television. Pay attention to each other. We sometimes go around the table and talk about the “Peak” (the best part) of our day and the “Pit” (the worst part) of our day. Engage with your family, listen with grace and patience to the words your kids are saying. Hear their sweet voices and take it all in!

-Go to bed an hour early

-Cut sugar and simple carbs out of your day (think cookies, ice cream and potato chips) (it’s amazing how lethargic sugar and simple carbs can make you feel!)

-Take 10 minutes of quiet, reflective time before you jump into your day. Whether you pray or meditate or stretch.

-Get outside and go for a walk, a jog or to play with the kids-just get moving!

-And the BEST thing you can do for yourself each day? Wear a piece of LuLaRoe clothing-guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you feel beautiful and amazing!

Maybe if we incorporate a few of these things over the next few days and weeks they’ll become habit and you’ll wonder how you ever did without your new “goal”!

I’m going to share my weekly goals with you on my Facebook page an Instagram and I encourage you to follow along! Yikes! This is really going to keep me accountable. I have a few personal goals in mind for myself so follow along and see how I’m doing!

Remember, living a life you love begins with loving who you are. Be the best version of yourself you can! You’re worth it!

I am lularoe

Wondering how I became involved with LuLaRoe? It all started with a simple picture of a dress on Instagram.

I remember finally buying an iPhone & my hubs telling me I needed to download IG and start following “people/businesses” so I just went to town clicking on pictures that were visually appealing. Then, by the grace of God, I came across a picture of the Amelia dress. I instantly fell in love so I started investigating; who created this dress & where on earth could I purchase it? I quickly realized I couldn’t buy this dress in a store which was intriguing; if I wanted this dress I had to host a “pop-up” so without thinking twice I emailed this unknown company, LuLaRoe, & waited for a reply.

Fast forward a couple of weeks in my chaotic life, I came across another post on IG by LuLaRoe saying “Host a Pop-up, earn FREE clothes!” Say what????  I hadn’t heard back about MY party yet. The wheels were spinning...I knew the reason no one contacted me was because there was NO ONE to contact me! Ummm HELLO OPPORTUNITY! So I took action. picked up the phone & called LuLaRoe myself.  Twenty minutes later, a personal conversation with DeAnne who is the founder of LuLaRoe, & a PayPal friends and family transfer of $2120, it was official: I became the 153rd owner in LuLaRoe!

A week later, 356 Maxi skirts arrived & it was time to hit the ground running. I had contacted every magazine, TV station, and festival in the state of Maryland, it seemed like. I knew I wanted to make a huge splash so I didn’t waste time waiting for people to come to me. I worked my new small business every day to everyone I came in contact with. I scheduled Pop-ups in every location I could think of where women gather: gyms, salons, restaurants, & homes. I worked 7 days a week, in addition to my full-time career in the Health Care industry.  Man, I was exhausted, but I knew deep down LuLaRoe was going to be successful as long as I was dedicated.

Networking was crucial for my success as I NEVER asked my friends to host a Pop-up in the beginning. I knew they would support me, regardless, so my plan was to expand outside my inner circle first.  Traveling was necessary; I spent lots of time on the road driving to Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, Georgia, & New York.  My ultimate goal was to spread my love of LuLaRoe to every woman I came in contact with and I wasn’t stopping until I accomplished my goal.

Being the first owner on the east coast has been life changing, but it didn’t happen over night. I had a plan and stuck to it, worked extremely hard, and even though not every day was easy, I had an open mind and used the bumps in the road as a learning experience.

Two years later, my business is thriving & I have one of the most successful teams in all of LuLaRoe. Team Like A Boss has over 1200 women making their dreams come true, by creating financial freedom for their families.

The icing on the cake: LuLaRoe is Simply Comfortable & beyond adorable!

xoxo,
